It has been awhile since I posted about our kitchen/dining room remodel. We were at a stand still for awhile after we got our cupboards and counter top installed. We have been waiting for our boards for our floor to dry before we could install them.
Last fall my hubby and his dad cut down some cherry logs and we decided to turn them into our floor! They cut the boards in January, but you have to wait for the wood to dry before you can install it. About a month ago we started cutting and planing (spelling?)the boards. A couple weeks ago we put it in the kiln to finish drying. Last week we ran it through the machine that makes the tongue and groove in the boards. We are very lucky that my father-in-law has his own wood shop and we were able to do all this ourselves! We saved thousands by making and installing the floor ourselves! It was actually fun to do it ourselves and see the progression of our boards. Well, last Thursday Kyle started installing the boards and we put polyurethane on it over the weekend. We are so happy with how it turned out. Now we are putting up the trim and doing some touch ups on the walls. I will post the finished photos as soon as we get it done!
Putting the laminate floor over the old 1970's linoleum before we put the new floor down! The kitchen is now located where our dining room was! We flipped it around and built a wall and tore one down! We built a new pantry, but we have to put permanent shelves up still. We have temporary redneck OSB board ones now! We are going to use some of the extra boards that we did not use from the floor to make the shelves!
Our boards in our garage waiting to be installed!
The boards all down before we applied the Polyurethane.
Applying the first coat of Polyurethane around Midnight on Saturday night!
Our Beautiful new flooring!
The wood will darken over the next year. I love the color and look of cherry.
More photos to come! I will try to post some more before and after photos of the completed kitchen/dining room!
